Northern Nevada HOPES Celebrates 3-Year Anniversary of Hope Springs: A Community Changer

Northern Nevada HOPES’ bridge housing community, Hope Springs, is celebrating its three-year anniversary. The pioneering transitional housing community dedicated to providing refuge and support for individuals experiencing homelessness has served as a beacon of hope for the community, offering a safe haven and comprehensive services such as behavioral health, substance use treatment, financial literacy training and case management to its residents.

Over the past three years, nearly 100 individuals experiencing homelessness have found residence at Hope Springs, providing more than just shelter, but a supportive community to call their own. These residents, encompassing both adult men and women, have discovered solace within the nurturing environment fostered by Hope Springs, frequently encountering a newfound sense of safety and security they have long sought.

“Our commitment to the well-being and empowerment of our residents remains steadfast,” remarked Sharon Chamberlain, chief executive officer at Northern Nevada HOPES. “Hope Springs is more than just a shelter; it’s a transformative journey towards stability and self-sufficiency.”

As Hope Springs celebrates its three-year milestone, it also celebrates the accomplishments of its residents. With 47 individuals successfully graduating from the program, Hope Springs continues to demonstrate its effectiveness in breaking the cycle of homelessness and fostering independence.

Northern Nevada HOPES is gearing up to open a new clinic across the street from Hope Springs, expanding services to 12,000 northern Nevadans, improving access to primary care, behavioral health, substance use treatment, an onsite pharmacy, case management services, and more. When the new clinic, The Jerry Smith Community Wellness Center, opens this May, Hope Springs residents and thousands more living in the area near the Washoe County operated, Cares Campus, often referred to as a healthcare desert, will have access to affordable, life-saving services.

“We are immensely grateful for the support of our community, whose generosity and compassion have been instrumental in the success of Hope Springs,” said Julia Cross, director at Hope Springs. “We feel like we are in the corridor of hope with our new clinic opening soon where our residents are now a two-minute walk away for their appointments.”

The Hope Springs campus, located at 1920 E. 4th Street in Reno, comprises 30 tiny home units along with centralized facilities including showers, restrooms, a kitchen, and communal spaces. Residents receive comprehensive medical and wellness services from the onsite HOPES staff, tailored to their individual needs and goals.

To commemorate this significant milestone and to extend opportunities for community engagement, Northern Nevada HOPES invites individuals and organizations to learn more about Hope Springs and explore ways to contribute to its development and sustainability.
