Medical Legal Partnership
Supporting our community beyond medical care
At Northern Nevada HOPES (HOPES), we’ve joined forces with Northern Nevada Legal Aid (NNLA) to support our community. This special partnership, called a Medical Legal Partnership (MLP), gives legal help to HOPES patients when they have legal problems that affect their health. It’s the only program like this in Nevada. Our staff can connect you with paralegals and lawyers to help address legal issues.
What issues can MLP address?
The MLP can only help in civil issues, including:
- Temporary Protection Orders (TPOs)
- Landlord/tenant: unlawful eviction, termination of essential utilities, habitability
- Immigration: humanitarian petitions (victims of crime, domestic violence)
- Eviction sealing
- Wills, living wills, powers of attorney, advanced directives
- Sealing records
- Notary services
- Credit report disputes
The MLP will generally not address:
- Small claims matters
- Medical malpractice
- Personal injury
- Products liability
- Grievances against HOPES
- Criminal defense
- Compliance issues
- Guardianship petitions
- Parental defense in the dependency court (foster care, CPS)
