(Reno, NV) July 30, 2013 – Walk, Run and Fight AIDS at the Northern Nevada AIDS Walk/Run on Saturday, August 17 at Idlewild Park in Reno. This year’s event includes a 5K Run, 5K Walk, and an all-new 3K Paws for the Cause Dog Walk. Participants can register online at nnaidswalk.org or active.com – $25 for individuals and $5 for dogs. Proceeds benefit Reno’s local HIV service organizations, including Northern Nevada HOPES, Planned Parenthood Marmonte, ACCEPT, Northern Nevada Outreach Team, and Frontline of Northern Nevada.
The 7th annual Northern Nevada AIDS Walk/Run aims to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS in our community while raising funds for lifesaving HIV prevention and treatment services. Over 8,000 people in Nevada are living with HIV and an estimated 1 in 5 are unaware of their infection. Young people between the ages of 13-29 continue to make up the largest number of new HIV infections.
Onetta Fanlo, Vice President at A&H Insurance in Reno, says, “This is our first year sponsoring the Northern Nevada AIDS Walk/Run, and we’re so excited to see it grow. This event is an opportunity to directly help people living with HIV and AIDS and those at-risk of infection.”
New to this year’s AIDS Walk/Run is a Vendor Village, featuring health and wellness booths, free HIV testing, food vendors, pet supplies, and more. The 3K Paws for the Cause Dog Walk, another new addition, gives dog owners an opportunity to help raise extra funds and awareness around HIV/AIDS.
