Nell J. Redfield Foundation Donates $500,000 to New HOPES Medical Building

The Nell J. Redfield Foundation awarded Northern Nevada HOPES a $500,000 grant to help fund the construction of its new three-story medical facility.

The grant will help HOPES meet its minimum fundraising goal of $5 million in capital needed to build its future community health center. To date, HOPES has raised $2.4 million in capital campaign funds.

The new 37,400 square-foot medical building will house 42 exam rooms, an adult primary care clinic, an infectious disease center, a wellness clinic, a pharmacy and a radiology and diagnostic lab.

The facility will allow HOPES to hire 38 new employees to add to its 60-person workforce. New jobs include everything from medical providers, to administration staff to facility maintenance personnel.

In addition to expanding its current primary care and behavioral health services, the new building and staff will allow HOPES to add new programs such as a pediatric primary care clinic. Children represent about 4 percent of HOPES’s patient population, but with the new pediatric practice HOPES expects to expand that number to 30 percent of its patient volume.

The community wellness center also opens the door to creating additional new services such as podiatry, geriatrics and complementary health services.

The total cost of the new building is estimated to be $13 million. HOPES has already secured roughly $5.5 million through Federal and State of Nevada New Markets Tax Credit program and has been preliminarily approved for a $5.6 million long-term permanent loan from US Bank. The remaining $2.5 million will be covered by donations and grants. Anything raised in the capital campaign over $2.5 million will be used to reduce the long-term permanent debt.

Construction of the building will begin in early January of 2015 and is expected to be completed in the beginning of 2016.
